Geographic Location
Located on U.S. Highway 1, at approximately mile
markers 16.5--20.5, between Cudjoe Key and the
Saddlebunch Keys.

Scope Note
Sources state that these keys were named either
for an Indian mound located on the East side,
north of the present highway, and which was shaped
like a loaf of sugar, or for the Sugarloaf
pineapple, a variety which was grown here.
Perkey, an early settlement, was located here.
Historical name
