Sugarloaf Keys
Geographic Location
Located on U.S. Highway 1, at approximately mile markers 16.5--20.5, between Cudjoe Key and the Saddlebunch Keys.
DeBrahm chart (1772) shows Glen Island. U.S. Coast Survey chart #169 (1878) shows Sugarloaf Keys.
Scope Note
Sources state that these keys were named either for an Indian mound located on the East side, north of the present highway, and which was shaped like a loaf of sugar, or for the Sugarloaf pineapple, a variety which was grown here. Perkey, an early settlement, was located here.
