Located oceanside of Ramrod Key, it is one of the Newfound Harbor Keys.

Gerdes, in his "Reconnaissance of the Florida Reef and all the Keys" (1849) states: "The small key due north of Looe Key is called Newfound Harbor Key."

Named for Newt and Ida Munson, who owned the key in the 1920's.
