Located in the Dry Tortugas island group.

So named on a chart of the Dry Tortugas drawn for the U.S. Navy Department in 1829. Called Loggerhead Turtle Kay on Blunt chart (1846).

The site of a lighthouse, the first of which was built here in 1856. Also the former site of a trading post used by workers building Fort Jefferson.
