Located four miles due south of Flamingo.

So named on a map published in Charles Tory Simpson's In "Lower Florida Wilds" (1920).

Visited in 1908 by ornithologist Frank M. Chapman, who observed Wurdemann's Herons breeding here and so noted the name.
