Scope Note:

Sources state that the Sugarloaf Keys were named either for an Indian mound located on the East side of (upper) Sugarloaf Key, north of the present highway, and which was shaped like a loaf of sugar, or for the Sugarloaf pineapple, a variety which was grown here.

Geographic Location:

Located between the Saddlebunch Keys and Park Key. U.S. Highway 1 crosses key at approximately mile markers 15.5--17.5.
