Prev Term: Archer Key
Next Term: Arsnicker Key
Arsnica Keys
Scope Note:
The name is said to be a corruption of "marsh sneaker", the Bahamian name for the herons. Gerdes, in his "Reconnaissance of the Florida Reefs and All the Keys" (1849) states: "The keys to the N.W. of Lower Matecumbe, and to the N. of Long Id. (Plantation Key), also the large keys dividing Barnes and Card Sounds, are called the Arsnica Keys". Gerdes refers to these latter keys as "Arsnicker."
