Tom's Harbor Keys

Scope Note:

A field report written for the U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey in 1935-36 states: "These Keys are correctly named on the chart. Local authorities call the south key Tom's Harbor Key and the north key Tom's Harbor Mangrove. The possessive is very well established and is recommended. The origin is unknown."

Geographic Location:

A group of keys located In Tom's Harbor, just to the Oceanside of U.S. Highway 1, at MM60, near Duck Key (I).

Gerdes (1849) states: "The island W. of Duck Key is Tom's Island." A survey map drawn in 1873 by Charles Smith shows Toms Harbor Keys.
