Rachel Key
Scope Note:
The 1910 census shows the key to have been inhabited by a sponger named Joseph Rigby. Apparently there were two keys here at one time. A field report written for the U.S. Coast And Geodetic Survey in 1935-36 states: "These two keys are called Big Rachel and Little Rachel. At present Big Rachel is connected by mangrove to the main key (Vaca?) and the name Rachel Key, when used, refers to Little Rachel. Both names are well established."
Geographic Location:
Located in Florida Bay, just north of Key Vaca.
