Named for Newt and Ida Munson, who were the owners of Munson Island in the 1920's. A famous fishing camp was formerly located here. Presidents Roosevelt, Truman, Kennedy, and Nixon were visitors. Frequently referred to as Little Palm Island, because of a resort located here. Also known locally as Sheriff's Island, after Sheriff John Spottswood, a former county sheriff (1953-1963).
