Scope Note:

 

In the pre-railroad era, this key was the site of a settlement of spongers. During the years of ferryboat operation, (1922-1938) the site of a settlement with a post office at the landing of the ferry from Lower Matecumbe Key. The 1870 census shows 45 settlers and 23 dwellings.

Geographic Location:

 

Located immediately east of, and connected by bridge to, Big Pine Key.

DeBrahm chart (1772) shows Edwards Island. Gerdes (1849) states, "The Island N. by W. from Summerlands Keys, lying between them and Little Pine Island is called No Name Key."
