- William Roberts, in his "First Discovery and Natural History of Florida" (1763) has Cayo Palem. This key was visited in 1774 by Bernard Romans. J.W. Norie, in his "Piloting Directions for the Gulf of Florida, the Bahama Bank & Islands" (1828) states: "On the west side of Rodrigues, is a very small kay, called Cayo de Palumbas, or Dove Kay."
