A Spanish document dated 1678 dealing with a Spanish effort using Keys Indians to search for the wreckage of Atocha has Boca Grande. Saragold Key on Gauld chart (1775). Saragold Key on Blunt chart (1846) J.W. Norie, in his " Piloting Directions for the Gulf of Florida, the Bahama Banks and Islands" (1828) shows Boca Grande Key. U.S. Coast Survey chart of 1855, "Key West Harbor and its Approaches" shows Boca Grande Key.
