Barracouta Key
Earlier name:
Key C
Related Terms:
Cayos Mulas
Scope Note:
Although it is not known how this key got its present name, there was a charter fishing yacht in Miami during the Florida East Coast railway construction years which made frequent fishing trips to the Keys. The yacht was named Barracouta, and given the very unusual spelling, it seems likely that there is a connection.
Geographic Location:
Located 7 miles west of Key West, and due north of Man Key.
References:
Named Key C on U.S. Coast Survey chart of 1855 "Key West Harbor and its Approaches."
